Monday
2 slices wholegrain bread, 1 oz cheese, Folláin No-Added Sugar/Salt Irish Tomato Relish, cucumber, Italian leaves, carton of unsweetened fruit juice and 1 apple.
Tuesday
1 small wrap with diced chicken, Folláin No-Added Sugar/Salt Fire Roasted Pepper Relish, rocket, cherry tomatoes, carton of milk and 1 pear.
Wednesday
Brown roll, tinned salmon, sweetcorn with a small spoon of salad cream, carton of yoghurt and 2 small oranges.
Thursday
Brown pitta and 1 slice ham, Folláin No-Added Sugar/Salt Exotic Fruit Relish, mixed leaf lettuce, carrot sticks, (Substitute salad and vegetables in the winter for vegetable soup), glass of milk and 1 banana.
Friday
Bagel, with turkey slice, cherry tomatoes, smoothie made with frozen berries and Folláin No Added Sugar Raspberry Jam, grapes.
Suitable Drinks for Children:
It is important that children take enough fluids during the day to avoid dehydration which could cause them to become tired and weak. Here are some suggestions:
Water and milk - they are tooth friendly and are suitable between and with meals.
Home-made vegetable soup – can provide vital vegetable portions for growing child.
Unsweetened fruit juices – good source of Vitamin C, but acidic so can attack teeth - drink with meals and ideally use a straw.
Yoghurt drinks or smoothies -preferably home-made ;
Flavoured milks or milk shakes – can also be made at home – milk blended with some Folláin No Added Sugar Strawberry or Raspberry jam.
Snacks for the Break or After School:
Depending on the child’s activities and age and whether they are staying in for after-school activities, they may need to supplement their lunch boxes with extra portions of healthy foods
Snacks:
Fresh fruit.
Fruit scone, plain or wholemeal scone with Folláin No Added Sugar fruit jam.
Raisins in boxes.
Nuts – make sure children are used to eating nuts for fear of choking and that no-one in the class is allergic to nuts.
Banana bread, fruit loaf, tea brack, barm brack.
Wholemeal biscuit, fig rolls.
Plain popcorn (not suitable for under 5 years of age);
Vegetable sticks with peanut butter dip and Folláin No Added Sugar Irish Tomato Relish.
Pancakes with fresh or tinned fruit and spread with some No Added Sugar jam.
Cheese and fruit chopped.
Yoghurt.
Crackers with cheese or cheese spread topped with Folláin No-Added Sugar/Salt Exotic Fruit Relish or crackers with peanut butter.
Bread, rolls, baps, pitta breads served with No Added Sugar Raspberry or Blackcurrant jam.
